The short version

  • Essential cookies only, by default

Nothing optional runs until you choose.

  • Two optional extras

Google Analytics and Google Maps, only with your permission.

  • No advertising cookies

We do not use cookies to track you for adverts.

  • Change your mind any time

Use "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a website saves on your device. Similar technologies, such as your browser's local and session storage, work in the same way. Some are needed for a website to work; others are optional and are only used with your permission.

Your choice

When you first visit, we ask whether you allow optional cookies. Until you choose, and if you choose "Essential only", only the essential items below are used. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. We ask again after six months.

Essential (always on)

These make the website work and remember your choices. They are never used to track you.

  • ae_cookie_choice (cookie, 6 months): remembers whether you allowed optional cookies.
  • ae-chat-session-id (session storage, until you close the tab): keeps your conversation with our chat assistant together.
  • ae-chat-greeting-shown (session storage, until you close the tab): stops the chat greeting appearing on every page.
  • help-text-size (local storage, until you clear it): remembers the text size you picked on our help pages.

Optional: Google Analytics

With your permission we use Google Analytics to understand, in total, how people find and use the website, so we can improve it. It does not tell us who you are.

  • _ga (cookie, up to 2 years): tells visits apart.
  • _ga_<ID> (cookie, up to 2 years): keeps the state of your visit.

Google processes this information under its own terms; see how Google uses cookies. If you later choose "Essential only", we delete these cookies.

Optional: Google Maps

Some tour pages show a Google Maps map. Google may set its own cookies (for example NID, up to 6 months) when the map loads. If you have not allowed optional cookies, the map only loads when you press "Show the map".

Optional: review widgets

Our reviews section can show a live widget from a review platform such as TripAdvisor. The platform may set its own cookies when the widget loads. If you have not allowed optional cookies, the widget only loads when you press its "Show reviews" button. The platform's own privacy policy explains how it uses them.

Advertising

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not sell information about your visit.

Managing cookies in your browser

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block essential cookies, some parts of the website may not work properly, and we will ask for your cookie choice on each visit.
